Planning submitted for extra care housing in Spalding

Extra care housing developers, Sea Island Developments has submitted their latest planning application to provide 69 extra care apartments in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire.

Collaborating with Newcastle-based JDDK Architects, and Social Care Strategies’ Housing and Care Consultant Matt Bukowski, Sea Island Developments now hopes to gain permission for the first development of its type in South Holland.

Managing Director, Mark Walton, said: “The development has the potential to massively improve quality of life for those with changing or complex needs, and we are thrilled to have now submitted the design for such a key site within Spalding.”

Sea Island has received strong support for its proposals for the linear brownfield site in Spalding, which overlooks the River Welland and was previously occupied by a builder’s merchant.

Having worked with JDDK on the successful application for a similar development in North Tyneside, Sea Island appointed the architects to design the scheme and submit plans for consideration.

Investment Director, Richard Ponton, said: “We try to bring together both innovative design and technology with the needs of the end user in mind, and this is why the collaboration process with local authorities and JDDK Architects has been so important to the scheme.”

As partnership and collaboration is key to all that Sea Island does, they will continue to involve the District and County Councils in discussion of these plans.

Samantha Dixon, Project Architect at JDDK Architects, said: “We were delighted to be working with Sea Island Developments again on this scheme, bringing much needed extra care housing to an area in need. We hope that our collaborative working with Sea Island Developments and the rest of the design team brings the same success here as we’ve seen on our previous schemes together.”

Sea Island Developments works collaboratively with local authorities to develop extra care housing for older people where there is evidence of need, finding and acquiring sites and working with councils to make the developments happen.

As developers of bespoke housing, the team at Sea Island has a strong track record in creating buildings and homes which enhance people’s lives and add value to the local community.
